Sustainability of work in the life cycle: the implementation of a system to monitor risk factors and to protect the physical, cognitive and emotional capacity of workers

The objectives of this project are design, testing and implementation of a system for continuous, integrated monitoring of the health, well-being and emotional, physical and cognitive capacity of workers at the designed site.

It is very important to talk about sustainability in occupational psychology because sustainability is increasingly understood in the last decade not only in terms of the ecological and socio-economic environment but also in terms of improving the quality of life of every human being.

The perspective of sustainability and conservation of resources used in the context of working life highlights the fact that work should not 'wear out' the individual in the long term, but that workers should be guaranteed to maintain their state of health, to maintain motivation/satisfaction, to reconcile work and private life and not to obsolescence their skills.

The issue of work sustainability becomes even more relevant if one considers it in the light of the progressive ageing of the working population and the time who they spend at work. This challenge is crucial, not only for the organizations but also for the community at large which can no longer afford to pass on to its health systems the costs that work produces in terms of health.

The expected results of this project relate to being able to create a mapping of risk factors and protection of well-being and work capacity. Also is crucial for act in a primary prevention perspective with targeted interventions before the negative consequences on health are more costly to manage. Will be of fundamental importance evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions that will be developed.

From a general point of view, the expectation is to test a monitoring system that can become fully operational in the plant and that in the future can be exported to other organizational contexts.
