Conservation of endangered fish species: population/genetic structure analysis, captive breeding, and reintroduction strategies
My research is part of the LIFE Minnow project, a conservation project for six freshwater fish species in the upper Po river basin. I focus on the genetic and structure of the populations, captive breeding and reintroduction strategies. I am also interested in better understanding certain aspects of the biology and ecology of some species (such as the Po brook lamprey and the Italian golden loach), about which very little is currently known. All research activities are therefore aimed at improving our knowledge of the species and/or developing effective conservation strategies to preserve the populations of the target species and reverse their decline.
